A real Goathead

Actually, I beg to differ.... I believe this is what a Goathead looks like.

This guy knows what's up!

Do you know what a goathead really is?

"A goathead is a sticker (thorn) that's very very common in New Mexico. They grow where tumbleweeds grow (where the ground has been disturbed, and the easy weeds can grow)."
Your quick release skewer may have been recalled.

Lake Manawa

The Professor had his hands full all day trying to capture video of a single Goathead that could ride a log from beginning to end. The following videos prove how sweet we are.

Riding Platte State Park (video)

Great weekend for riding. The occasional sprinkle packed the trail down a little for a smooth ride.

Training ride

This gives me a few ideas.....Hey A.B., Once you finally get your bike put back together we will need to get you on an excellerated training schedule in order to get you ready for Salida. Posted by Picasa

I'm well hydrated.

Here is the hydration pack that I won from Bike Magazine. I haven't tried it out yet, but I like the look of it. It has a flap on it that holds a helmet. I'm thinking I could stick my helmet-cam helmet in there to save my neck on long rides.

I also got a big Dakine duffle bag that just about has enough room in it for my gear, my bike and a Volkswagon. If I bring it to Colorado, we're definitly going to need to bring the trailer.

Adventure Race Details - July 15

The Adventure Race looms. A day of fun and activity, and for some, an attempt at not coming in last. I went through the event details, and here are some items that stuck out:

Competition Format
  • Trail Running
  • Mountain Biking
  • Multiple Events (including water)
  • Climbing
The Gear: All teams will be required to bring the following gear. Race officials will check all gear upon check-in at 8 a.m.:

Mandatory Team Equipment
  • First Aid Kit suitable for three people
  • 3” Adhesive Bandages
  • 1 Ace Bandage
  • Mole Skin
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Electrolyte replacement tablets
  • Sunscreen
  • Tylenol or equivalent
Mandatory Personal Bike Equipment
  • Mountain Bike (No Road Bikes or Cross Bikes)
  • Bike Helmet
Recommended Team Equipment
  • Multi-tool
  • 2 Spare tubes
  • Patch kit
  • 1 waterproof map/passport holder (Highly recommended)
I apologize to J-Mac right now for not having half of the required or recommended gear.

Deer at Jewel

Besides J-Mac's non-event chain breaking, we also saw about 6 or more deer on the trail. The way the trail worked through the woods, we ended up 'herding' the deer a few times. I caught two with my camera.

Bad day at Jewel

MTB Goat Heads
I consider most of the time I spend on my bike as constructive time. Unfortunately for J-Mac that was not the case this Saturday at Jewel. Early in the ride he broke his chain and the rest of us let him down by not having the appropriate tools to fix it. The good news is that we did catch the chain break on video......Roll tape!

Stairs

We did a little urban riding in the Old Market last night. Don't worry, Jon's chain is fine. ;)
