Vindication
4 or 5 years ago, I went mountain biking in Georgia with a friend from Atlanta. I don't remember the name of the trail we were on, just that it was the site of the Atlanta Olympic Mountain Bike Race. We were nearing the end of the loop, when I saw something move across the trail about 50ft up ahead of me. I looked up to see a large light brown animal with its back-end very low to the ground and a very thick tail. I slammed on the brakes and jumped off my bike. My buddy I was riding with nearly slammed into me. Despite the fact that I realized what I was saying was completely ridiculous, I turned and said to him, "dude, I think a kangaroo just crossed the trail up ahead of us!" He of course laughed, but I continued to insist it was a kangaroo. We rode up to where I saw it and there was no sign of a kangaroo (or any other animal) anywhere. My friend concluded that either I was dehydrated and hallucinating or it was possibly a mountain lion (which are spotted in that area every now and then). Even though I was pretty sure it looked much more like a kangaroo than a mountain lion, I went with his explanation in order to avoid public ridicule...... That is, until today...... Today, I have an ounce of vindication!
Please contact me if you've also spotted a kangaroo on the trail. Maybe we can form a support group.
