Suggestions?

At the end of October, the Goatheads are going to pile into a big, fossil fuel burning vehicle and drive west until we run into a large red butte........ This will be the first time any of us have biked in Moab. The tentative plan is to spend three days and two nights in the general vicinity of Moab. Beyond that, we have no real plans. Does anyone who's been there before have a suggestion or two for us? What trails should we ride? Where should we stay?(camp or hotel?)Where should we eat? Etc.
Anything would be helpful.

I think they should move it to a different weekend!

i think you should get a hostel or reserve a campground now. they fill up quick. hotels are okay but also book up early. hostels are cheap and still offer amenities such as showers and bathrooms. if camping where there are no showers plan on spending a few bucks a day on a shower anyways. after a long day of riding, you will be more than happy to pay a couple bucks for a shower :)

ride porcupine ridge lots. go all the way to the top. upper to lower to porcupine. its like three to four hours of downhill. lots of fun. do NOT ride poison spider. i repeat. do NOT ride poison spider.

Thanks Dan. Jon found a web site for the Lazy Lizard Hostel in Moab. It looks like a sweet place. 6 of us can stay there for pretty stinkin cheap.

Your stern warning against poison spider has peaked my interest. I'm not sure I can resist the temptation to check it out. Did something horrible happen to you there? I'm picturing you wedged under a rock for several days until you decide it's worth it to hack off your foot with tire lever........ Is that why I haven't seen you on the trails lately?
Thanks again, hopefully I'll run into you sometime soon.

I went there with a friend for the first time in the spring of 2006 and had a blast. Porcupine is FUN! Bartlet wash was unique. So many trails to choose from...get the book and pick a couple.
